Federal Tax Credits |
|
For a limited time, purchasers of highly
efficient heating, cooling, water heating equipment and home
insulation can take tax credits of up to 30% for qualifying
purchases.. |
|
Gas furnaces |
With the signing of the Energy Policy Act of
2005 (EPACT), homeowners who purchase furnaces with an AFUE of 95%
AFUE or higher in 2009 and 2010 may qualify for a
tax credit of up to $1500.

|
Central air conditioning
|
Central air conditioning units must meet
the highest tier standards set by the Consortium for
Energy Efficiency (CEE), which require a Seasonal Energy
Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 15 and an Energy Efficiency
Ratio (EER) or 12.5 for split systems (those with
separate indoor and outdoor units) and SEER 14 and EER
12 for single-package systems (typically located on a
roof). SEER measures performance throughout the cooling
season, EER measures performance on a very hot day. |
|
Heat pumps |
Air-source heat pumps must have a
Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) 9 or greater,
SEER 15 or higher, and EER 13 or higher |
|
Gas water heaters |
Gas water heaters—Energy Factor of at
least 0.8. The only models that meet this standard
currently are tankless water heaters and some systems
that combine both space and water heating. |
|
Solar water
heating |
Solar water Heating Systems have a 30%
Federal Tax Credit with no cost cap. This is the best
tome to add truly efficient water heating to your home
or apartment building. |
|
Insulation |
Added insulation to walls, ceilings, or
other part of the building envelope to bring insulation
up to levels specified in the 2001 IECC model energy
code. |
